Welcome back to The Flex Audiology Show! Today, we’re chatting about the latest hearing aid packaging and the reasoning behind it, and then I’m going to reveal one of my favorite local restaurants. But before that, a more serious topic: the reasoning behind this new battery packaging.
Reese’s Law
There’s no stronger force in the world than a mother on a mission. In 2020, a 17-month-old child named Reese swallowed a button battery from a remote control – like the batteries we use in hearing aids. Unfortunately, Reese passed from severe injuries after swallowing the battery, and her mother Trista was moved to action.
Reese’s Law was passed in 2022 and made sure that the packaging on button batteries was significantly safer for children under the age of two. Where once was an easy access tab to pull the batteries free from the packaging, now, you’ll need scissors to access the batteries themselves.
Heavy-Duty Packaging for Heavy-Duty Safety
I recently came across the new packaging in my latest order of hearing aid batteries for our patients; while the new packaging takes some elbow grease to get into, it’s a relief to see that our children won’t be in danger of accidentally finding these batteries and ingesting them anymore.
However, if you struggle with the fine dexterity that’s needed for opening these new battery packs, I recommend you switch to or stick to rechargeable batteries – less finicky!
We’re still receiving batteries in the old packaging; my guess is that they’re running through their stock before the new packaging is finalized. If you have any questions, contact us and we’d be happy to help.
Local Business Spotlight
Owned by the casino in town, No-ce is an Italian restaurant in the Lawrenceburg Event Center next to the Hilton.
Initial reviews gave it four stars – I have no problem giving it a full five. The pricing was reasonable, and the portion sizes were excellent!
My husband and I went together to try out No-ce. We ordered two appetizers (we’re both big calamari and fresh shrimp fans), and honestly? Those could’ve been our entrees! They gave us so much food, we had to stop before we finished it all and got full!
I ordered the chicken saltimbocca, and my husband got the lasagna. Both of our meals were amazing, and they had a variety of desserts… perfect for my sweet tooth.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience, especially when we got to have our after-dinner drinks and sit on the patio space to watch the river and people going by. I highly recommend No-ce for the Italian food lovers out there! Super reasonable and a beautiful experience, I hope you’ll go and check them out.
