Hearables

Looking for something lower budget, or wondering if an over-the-counter hearing device may be a better solution for you?

According to an executive order by President Biden in July 2021, only 14% of the 48 million Americans with a hearing loss are hearing aid wearers, with a large contributing factor being due to the investment required to access hearing healthcare.

This resulted in the proposed regulations for over-the-counter hearing aids being published in October 2021 to determine who these devices are for, who they are strictly not for, and the role they play in hearing healthcare.

Although there were many comments on the proposed regulations, there has been a number of consumer technology brands eagerly awaiting the finalized regulations before launching their over-the-counter hearing devices, which they’re calling “Hearables.”

One of the first brands to announce their new technology is Jabra.

Meet the Jabra Enhance Plus

The Jabra Enhance Plus has been developed specifically for people who have a mild hearing loss who are looking to improve their hearing ability in certain social settings while still enjoying the many benefits of a connected wireless earbud.

Jabra conducted in-depth research and learned that people wanted a simplified hearing aid that is a lower-cost and accessible alternative to hearing instruments, with hearing support being just one of many benefits.

With this understanding, they developed the Jabra Enhance Plus, which is a set of miniature earbuds engineered for hearing enhancement, music, and calls.

The key benefits include:

Digital noise reduction to cut background noise

Speech-in-noise capabilities to help you to hear conversations in louder environments

10 hours battery and up to 30 hours battery rechargeability when using the carry case

EarGels in three sizes for a secure and comfortable fit

Rich and clear sound for music and phone calls (just as you would expect from Jabra)

Why Flex Audiology Chose to Become a Jabra Approved Clinic

The hearing healthcare of Lawrenceburg is our number one priority.

Our big concern with over-the-counter hearing devices was that people could purchase them without having their hearing properly tested and without working with a professional to have them fitted.

The reason that this was a large concern was because without a full diagnostic hearing evaluation, you may be self-diagnosing a hearing loss that doesn’t exist. It may be a more complex medical challenge that needs a different approach or something as simple as a buildup of earwax.

It’s why working with a professional is incredibly important to ensure your hearing health is prioritized and that the right decision is being made for your long-term hearing health.

This does mean that we’re one of a small number of hearing care clinics to offer the Jabra Enhance Plus, and it’s available in Lawrenceburg.

Are These Devices Right for You?

With the price being $799.00 for the pair of devices and charger case, it’s one of the lowest investments that we’ve seen to start a journey toward better hearing.

However, they’re only the right solution if you have a mild hearing loss.

This is why it’s important to first have a diagnostic hearing evaluation. Following this assessment, we can then determine if they’re the right solution based on your audiogram and specific needs

If they are, then we can help you to fit them and teach you how to use them.

If they’re not the right option, then we can help you to explore some alternative competitively priced solutions.
