Hearing Aid Repairs in Harrison

Hearing Aid Repairs in Harrison

When your hearing aid stops working properly, even a small issue can make conversations, phone calls, and everyday activities frustrating. At Flex Audiology, we provide hearing aid repair services for patients in Harrison, Whitewater Township, Miamitown, and communities throughout western Hamilton County.

Don’t Toss Your Hearing Aids, Bring Them To Us For Repair

Many repairs are simpler than people expect. Ohio's humid summers, seasonal pollen, and everyday earwax buildup can all affect hearing aid performance over time. We begin by inspecting and cleaning your devices, checking batteries or rechargeable components, replacing worn parts when possible, and determining whether the issue can be resolved in the office or requires manufacturer service.

Whether your hearing aids were purchased through Flex Audiology or another provider, we'll help you understand what's wrong and recommend the most practical next step.

How Do I Know If My Hearing Aid Needs Repair?

Not every hearing aid problem means the device has failed. Many common issues can be corrected with professional cleaning, maintenance, or a simple adjustment. If you notice changes in performance, don't wait until your hearing aid stops working completely.

Hearing Aid Turned Off

It happens more often than you might think. Hearing aids can accidentally be switched off while changing batteries, cleaning the device, placing it in a charger, or handling it during the day. If your hearing aid suddenly becomes silent, we'll first confirm that the settings, programs, and power controls are functioning properly before looking for more complex problems.

Volume is Set Too Low

If speech sounds faint or difficult to understand, the issue may not be a repair at all. Volume settings can change accidentally, and hearing aids sometimes require programming adjustments as your hearing changes over time. Our audiologists can determine whether the device needs servicing or simply needs to be reprogrammed to better match your current hearing needs.

Dead Batteries / Not Charging

Disposable batteries eventually lose power, while rechargeable hearing aids may develop charging issues caused by dirty charging contacts, worn batteries, or charger malfunctions. Temperature swings between cold winters and hot Ohio summers can also affect battery performance. We'll inspect the hearing aid and charging system to identify the source of the problem.

Obstruction of Wax Buildup

Waxy Build-up Deposits

Earwax is one of the most common reasons hearing aids seem to stop working. Wax can block microphones, receivers, wax guards, and tubing, reducing sound quality or causing the device to stop producing sound altogether. Professional cleaning often restores normal performance while helping prevent more significant damage from moisture or debris.

Hearing Aid Care And Maintenance

Because they are delicate medical devices sitting in a part of your body, hearing aids require daily cleaning to combat the buildup of debris, earwax, and moisture.

Wax Guards

Hearing aids can get clogged with earwax. Your audiologist will guide you on how to replace the wax guards or wax traps that are included with your hearing aids, helping to ensure they function properly and continue to deliver clear sound.

Batteries

When not using your hearing aid, open the battery door to save power. Use the correct battery type and follow care instructions. Rechargeable aids charge nightly, avoiding frequent battery changes. Lithium batteries last about 4–5 years.

Electroacoustic Analysis

This is an annual performance test used by our hearing aid technicians to evaluate how well all of your hearing aid features are working, as well as the viability of internal components, in order to ensure optimal performance.

Scheduled Maintenance

Just like regular oil changes keep your car running smoothly, following your hearing aid provider’s recommended maintenance is key. This includes deep cleaning & vacuuming of the microphone ports to keep your hearing aids in top condition.

How Long Will My Hearing Aid Repair Take?

Repair times depend on what's causing the problem. Many issues, like professional cleaning, replacing wax guards, tubing, domes, filters, and troubleshooting batteries or charging systems, can often be completed during your appointment.

If internal components have failed or the hearing aid has experienced moisture damage or physical impact, it may need to be sent to the manufacturer for repair. Before any work is completed, we'll explain the issue, discuss your options, provide an estimated timeline, and let you know whether a loaner device may be available while your hearing aid is being serviced.

Loaner Hearing Aids While You Wait

In addition to providing expert repairs, Flex Audiology provides you with a loaner set of hearing aids while your devices are in the shop.

They won’t fit exactly like your custom-formed devices, but we stock a wide range of hearing instruments, from canal aids to behind-the-ear devices, which will work in a pinch.

  • Excellent service. Knowledgable doctors and very nice staff. Highly recommend! Drs Person and McGuire are both professional and compassionate/understanding to their patients concerns and needs. I had tried hearing aids a few years ago only to end up frustrated with them. This time around was a totally different experience. If there is a question that they cannot answer they will reach out to whomever necessary to find the answer. I also deal with tinnitus and Flex Audiology was the only place that offers tinnitus cognitive behavior therapy to learn how to manage my tinnitus. No, tinnitus cannot be cured but it CAN be managed to help you lead a healthier/happier life. I myself am in the healthcare profession and know what to look for as far as quality care. I would not hesitate to recommend Flex Audiology to anyone who has hearing needs.

  • "Since having my hearing aids fitted, I now feel included with my surroundings and able to hear the beautiful sounds around me. The brain needs clear signals to embed or consolidate new memories. If the signal is fuzzy, the brain decides that the signal is not clear enough to work with."

  • "You don't realize how much you're missing out on when you have trouble hearing. I was worried my hearing would only get worse if I didn’t take action. Fortunately, a friend of mine had a great experience at Flex Audiology, which made my decision to seek help much easier. At my first appointment..."
